What does this mean for you?
It means that all stakeholders (that's you!!) have 60 days from Feb 22nd, 2024 (that's a deadline of April 22nd) to file motions to intervene, protests, comments, or recommendations on the final license applications for each project.
What's the difference between those things?
Comments are general statements, complaints, or petitions on current applications - this is what we are encouraging most folks to submit. A comment communicates to FERC local concerns, recommendations, and desires. This provides additional information that FERC has to consider as they are making decisions as to what will be included in the next license.
A motion to intervene allows the intervenor to become a legal party to the proceedings, which grants the ability to request hearings of FERC orders and appeal agency actions in court. CRC will be intervening!
Why should you file a comment now if you already did so 3 or 5 or 10 years ago?
Every comment counts!!
These projects affect over 175 miles of the Connecticut River. Almost half of the whole river! If you care about recreation, fish and wildlife, water quality, cultural resources, riverbank restoration, or just like the river, these project operations affect you! Even if you have commented to FERC in the past, it is important to do so again and reiterate how hydro operations affect your life and community and whether what you previously commented on has changed in the ensuing wait.
This is the final opportunity to make your voice heard with FERC and help shape the future of our river for the next generation.
