May 28, 2009. Join in the fun as a spectator or participant at the 9th Annual Curtis Universal Connecticut River Challenge flat water paddling races taking place at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 13th, at the Springfield Yacht and Canoe Club, 1210 River Road in Agawam, MA, just south of the Springfield-Agawam South End Bridge. Take the Rt. 57 Exit off of I-91, north or south, to River Road off the Agawam rotary—follow Springfield Yacht and Canoe Club signs. Once again Curtis Universal is generously donating all net proceeds from the event to CRC.

Races include the Challenge’s traditional pro paddling heats for canoeists and kayakers competing in 4 and 12-mile races sanctioned by the New England Canoe and Kayak Racing Association (NECKRA). No racing experience is necessary to participate in the shorter, 1-1/2 mile amateur race where river enthusiasts can enjoy a lovely stretch of the Connecticut. The paddling awards and great prizes will be announced following the free, post-race snacks for all participants between 1 – 2 p.m. Spectators and participants are also invited to take part in a 50/50 raffle.

Race-day registration takes place from 8:00 – 10:30 a.m. Races start at 11:00. Entrants must provide their own equipment and PFDs.
