Earth Week: Ways to act locally for environmental change

Join local speakers in Middletown, CT to hear ways that you can affect true change for the environment on local issues.
- Kim O’Rourke, Recycling Coordinator, City of Middletown: Reducing Waste One Scrap at a Time” Learn about the importance and opportunities for food waste composting and diversion.
- Yasmin Ugurlu, Reboot Eco: Addressing Eco Anxiety, Reducing and Reusing and its benefits for the planet as well as one’s health and wallet.
- Rhea Drozdenko, CT River Conservancy: Learning About Invasive Plants, and their Effect on Our Waterways. Aquatic invasive species are a threat to native ecosystems and waterways and a nuisance to paddlers and boaters. We can take action to prevent the spread and protect native flora and fauna by changing our boating behaviors and taking part in volunteer pulls.
- John Hall, Jonah Center: Environmental Detective Work: What makes our advocacy effective and efficient? John will talk about the Jonah Center’s “Replace Our Trees” campaign to illustrate both what it takes to succeed and what can go wrong.
- Marcella Trowbridge, End of Life Doula: Green Burial; Living our Environmental Values- After We Die, Learn About Green or Natural Burial. How might fostering choices like these, honor our commitment to the planet?
