Fish Migration Bike Party
May 18, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT
Join CRC and Friends of Northampton Trails during Bay State Bike Month for an educational bicycle ride through the Mill River watershed in Northampton. Each month FNT hosts a bike party to support the planet, promote alternative transportation and build community. This May, CRC is partnering with FNT on a ride that will follow the fish that migrate up the Connecticut River and its tributaries at this time of year. Participants are encouraged to decorate their helmets and bicycles to go along with the fish theme and we will have additional supplies to create your own fish fins or tail to attach to your bicycle.
We will ride as a group on a combination of streets (alongside traffic), rail trails and a small amount of hard packed dirt road. The six mile route will take us on a tour of the Mill River watershed and will include stops to learn about the annual migration of fish up the rivers, the status of migratory fish populations, the impact of dams and development and the history of the Mill River in Williamsburg and Northampton. This will be a “no-drop” ride, meaning that we will bike as one group and at a pace that is comfortable for the entirety of the group. Participants must wear a helmet and we encourage you to wear bright colors and bring bike lights for visibility. Find the route map with directions here!
